The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark a keyword or topic in a Tweet. To reach the Tweeps most interested in your Tweet you want to drill down to the most effective hashtags/keywords just like you do when you list your You Tube videos or books on Amazon. It might help to think of #hashtags like you would SEO keywords.

Hashtags.org not only shows how much use a certain hashtag receives but gives you some analytical information for that keyword also.

TweetChat.com also shows you how often a hashtag is being used. This helps you choose the most effective words to apply the # symbol to and reach the most people searching for that particular word.
